Infinite elements have been used for the modelling of infinite surfaces in boundary element discretizations since 1979. The greatest difficulty in their implementation is the evaluation of strongly singular integrals, which is usually performed indirectly. This paper discusses the application of the recently developed algorithms for the direct numerical evaluation of these integrals to semi-infinite special fundamental solutions and to infinite boundary elements.
